I AM THAT I AM
Do you feel apart from the crowd, like you don’t fit in? That you are too much or always misunderstood? That every time you be yourself unedited, someone gets their feathers ruffled? Do you feel like there is something wrong with you, that you are just so different from most people? Do you see the madness going on in the world and wonder what is so inherently wrong with our species, why are we so destructive? Do you find it difficult to be in this world as it is because of all the craziness going on? Do you see a once beautiful tree covered piece of land stripped and cleared, concreted, and replaced with a car park, and a freaking Riverlife church of all things? I mean if church is meant to bring you closer to God, how can they be so irreverent as to trash Gods creation, and cover it over with concrete, what the?
Do you think about the unequal distribution of wealth where a handful of people have more wealth than a billion? I mean how could anyone need all that money and then thirst for more?
I know we all have free will to focus on these kinds of things or things that are easier to digest, yet I still get impacted when I drive past a massive Riverlife church and car park that just six months ago was a beautiful piece of forest. This ain’t supporting the life of the river that’s for sure!
How do we live in a crazy world when we are aware and sensitive and keep our sanity at the same time? Do we put up and shut up, get enraged and protest, shut ourselves down with addictive foods, drugs or the art of keeping busy at all costs?
I know for me I have days where I am calm and positive, enjoying life and my journey. But then I drive past Riverlife church or another piece of nature that has just been cleared of all life for human use, and I do get upset. I get angry that nature cannot be incorporated and built around!
I get frustrated and annoyed when someone calls themselves an environmentalist, yet they eat meat, which causes more pollution than all the transport systems in the world combined. Or say they hate cruelty, yet they are happy to pay for someone else to be cruel! How is it that people can watch some footage of the way cows are so cruelly slaughtered yet ten minutes later go to the shop and order a hamburger? Why are we so desensitized to our own insanity?
Are we as a species imbedded with a self-destructive gene? I think not. The quest for life and a meaningful life is imbedded in our genes! So how did we get so far off track to living a life supportive, respectful co-existence with this beautiful planet we call home?
I believe a disrespectful and irreverent life stems from a core of shame. That we are born perfect, get messed up and then spend the rest of our lives trying to get back to the space of inner perfection we were born into. I know for me as I have journeyed on this quest to find inner peace, that my way of being in the world has increasingly become more reverent. As my self-esteem and self-worth has increased, so has my respect for all other humans, creatures and nature! As I have gained more tolerance and acceptance of myself, I have also gained tolerance for and acceptance of others differences.
I have come to understand that we all behave in ways that sometimes even confuse ourselves. That life really is a mirror! The name of God is “I AM”. I love this because it opens up the door for compassion and understanding. As we experience others, who are sometimes expressing challenging behaviours, by using the words I AM THAT I AM we can experience compassion and peace! Because we realise whatever behaviour we are judging in another, we have also expressed or displayed! We have all at times been critical, or rude, or short tempered, or loud, or insensitive, or ignorant, or destructive, or pompous………
If we can show ourselves compassion, curiosity, tolerance and acceptance, whilst not being so quick to berate or judge ourselves. We will find we can extend these qualities to others when they mirror the aspects of ourselves we find disdain with. The words I Am That I Am can not only create a more compassionate world but increase our self-worth and reduce our shame, whilst increasing reverence for all of life!
